Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the presidential running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on women, particularly traders, to be patient with their husbands who are struggling to provide financial support due to the country’s worsening economic conditions.
During her regional tour in Dunkwa Mfoum in the Central Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang addressed market women, acknowledging the significant hardships faced by Ghanaians, especially those in small-scale enterprises. She assured them that the NDC is aware of these challenges and is committed to addressing them.
As part of the NDC’s plans to uplift women, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang announced the party’s intention to establish a Women’s Development Bank if elected. This initiative aims to provide women with easier access to credit, eliminating the barriers of collateral and high interest rates.
She emphasized that the Women’s Development Bank is one of several interventions the NDC intends to implement to improve the lives of women across Ghana. The initiative is expected to benefit over one million women by offering loans to support their businesses, thereby enhancing their economic prospects and overall well-being.
“Most of the time, when you are unable to get credit from financial institutions to support your trade, you turn to your husbands for help, but they cannot assist because they are either out of jobs or their businesses are struggling due to the economic difficulties in the country. Be patient with them because it is not their fault. The poor economic management has created all this hardship,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said.
