Guinness World Record wave sweeps West Africa, nearly 700 applications from Ghana alone

In recent times, there has been a notable upswing in the desire among Ghanaians and West Africans to break and set new Guinness World Records, marking a trend of record-breaking enthusiasm in the region.

Individuals from various walks of life are actively engaging in endeavours to push their limits, from epic cook-a-thons to soul-stirring sing-a-thons.

Notable attempts include 's Hilda Baci's cook-a-thon, Ghana's Afua Asantewaa‘s sing-a-thon, and Chef Faila's ongoing cook-a-thon, contributing to the growing wave of record-breaking aspirations.

According to data provided by the Guinness World Record, there has been a significant surge in record applications from Ghana.

Since July 2023, a total of 355 applications have been submitted by individuals in Ghana alone, reflecting the heightened interest in breaking records.

The surge in applications was particularly pronounced in December 2023, with 251 submissions. This momentum has continued into January 2024, with an additional 80 applications thus far.

Commenting on this remarkable development, Alina Polianskaya, a spokesperson from the Guinness World Record, stated, “It has been amazing to see the enthusiasm for record-breaking in the past year, and we look forward to seeing even more success to come.”

However, she emphasized that only a small percentage of applications become records, with around 95% of applications not converting to records.
